English, by Justin Geoffrey. No publisher or date of publication listed. Handwritten, containing various poems, bound in white leather with an unusual medallion inset in the cover. Each page has elaborate geometrical designs along the border. There is no additional artwork, but the first letter of each poem takes the form of a stylized grotesque.
The front interior page bears a note in black pen that reads: “To Mister Roger Carlyle. I hope you find these words as inspiring as yours were to me at our last meeting. My regards to Anastasia — Tyler”
Research
The medallion is actually a very thin slice of polished, translucent rock, which is placed over a thin silver backing, creating a strange mirror-like effect in rich grey and white tones. You are aware this sort of rock formation is a type of geode called a ‘nodule’ — a geode with a totally filled interior. The pattern of the crystal is highly symmetrical, and is disturbingly suggestive of an organic form.
